After its much anticipated launch last year, the 2021 Porsche Taycan is already getting additional features. For its second production year, the electric car will have access to new optional features through Porsche’s Function on Demand (FoD) service. The new system will allow owners to purchase optional functions for their already configured Taycan through over-the-air software updates. One of those FoD options for 2021 is Active Lane Keep Assist. Porsche InnoDrive, which adjusts vehicle speed based on the surrounding conditions, is also available over-the-air. Other FoD features include Power Steering Plus and Porsche’s Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM). The Power Steering Plus function is only available as a one-time purchase. However, the other features can either be purchased outright or as a monthly subscription service.
Other changes for the new model include a color head-up display and a new charging system called Plug & Charge. Upon connecting the charging cable to the Taycan, the new intelligent charging system will automatically identify the vehicle. Upon identification, the battery charging and payment processing will also be done automatically. Also new for 2021 is a battery preservation feature. The new system provides an option to regulate the charging capacity to 200 kW instead of the standard 270 kW. That should help extend the battery’s life. Prolonged stops are the ideal time to use the feature since it takes more time. The feature is only available at fast charging locations for now. Porsche also extended the 79.2-kWh battery option to the Taycan 4S model.
For models with the adaptive air suspension, Porsche added their new Smartlift feature. The new function allows the driver to program certain locations that require greater ground clearance. The feature will then automatically raise the vehicle’s height when approaching that specific area. Porsche also added seven new exterior color options and five new interior color choices for the upcoming model year. On the outside, Cherry Metallic, Ice Grey Metallic, Coffee Beige Metallic, Neptune Blue, Frozenberry Metallic, Chalk and Mahogany Metallic are now available. The cabin gets new colors as well. Graphite Blue/Slate Grey Race-Tex, Black/Limestone Beige, Basalt Black/Meranti Brown OLEA Club, Blackberry, or Blackberry/Slate Grey can all be ordered for the interior now.
The Taycan 4S has a base price of $105,150, while the pricier Turbo S starts at $186,350. The new models are expected to arrive at dealerships around the beginning of 2021.
