The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has lapped the 12.8-mile section of the legendary Nürburgring in a record 6:43.616 minutes. The AMG’s entire 12.944-mile circuit time was clocked in at 6:48.047. The complete portion of the track is now officially used for records. That is the quickest time ever recorded by a street-legal production car, giving it the top spot for the Sports cars category. That record-setting time is also the quickest for any unmodified, non-prototype vehicle.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane-crank V-8. Output is rated at 720 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 590 lb-ft of torque between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. Its twin-scroll turbochargers can deliver up to 24.6 psi of boost. AMG’s Speedshift 7-speed dual-clutch transmission puts the immense power on the road. The manufacturer claims that the GT can launch to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph. The aerodynamic package on the car includes an adjustable front splitter and rear wing. Both of those features were optimized for the record lap. The customizable suspension was also configured for the circuit run and its wheels were fitted with the factory Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO soft compound tires.
The AMG GT Black Series has a starting price of $326,050. It is expected to arrive in the U.S. early next year.
